Assad's family tried to flee from Syria
Detachments of the opposition Free Syrian Army (FSA) have thwarted an attempt of the family members of acting President Bashar al-Assad to leave the country on Sunday night, the Internet portal of the newspaper "Al-Masri al-Yaum" reported referring to one of the warlords of FSA.
A former army officer, who declined to be named, said that "on Sunday night, convoy of government vehicles tried to get to the international airport of Damascus, but the FSA troops prevented the attempt". According to the newspaper, there took place a firing between armed opposition groups and the Presidential Guard, who accompanied the column. Interlocutor of the publication noted that the special forces were assisted by a helicopter covering the cars from the air, after that all the cars turned around and headed back to Damascus towards the residence of Bashar al-Assad.
By assumption of the field commander of the FSA, the column was carrying the wife of Syrian President with children, his mother - Anisa Mahluf and his nephew - Rami Mahluf with children.
Meanwhile, no official comment on the incident by the authorities has been received.
Earlier it was reported that on Sunday, the opposition FSA, consisting mainly of defectors from the Syrian regular army, led fighting with government troops on the outskirts of the capital, including near the international airport of Damascus, RIA Novosti reported.
