Powerful earthquake shook Philippines
The 6.8-magnitude quake registered in Philippines, resulting at least one person dead. According to the U.S. Geological Survey, the epicenter of the earthquake is located 72 kilometers north of Dumaguete City on the island of Negros, the newspaper "Izvestia" reported today.
Currently, it's reported about one person dead in the earthquake. Other victims are not reported.
Lenta.ru clarifies, the tremors were recorded at 11:49 local time (7:49 Moscow time). No warnings about the danger of a tsunami due to the disaster were reported.
According to the RIA Novosti referring to the Associated Press, a victim of the earthquake is a child. In addition, according to the agency, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology warned of the possible formation of a tsunami up to one meter.
It was clarified that a child was crushed by a concrete wall. Immediately after the first tremors, a panic took place, the people hurriedly left the house, shops and offices in many towns. According to local officials, several buildings were damaged by earthquakes.
It is also reported about another earthquake, occurred near the Philippine island of Mindanao. The strength of quake reached 5.2 points, the earthquake centre lies at a depth of 490 km. Its epicenter is 114 km from the city of General Roca Santos.
