Abkhazia accuses Georgian authorities of manic behavior2012-07-12 18:52
Abkhazia has expressed regret over the resolution adopted by the PACE on July 9 on the situation of Georgia, the GHN reported.gt-en-newsitem-inside
Adoption of any international political document should be based on a real assessment of the situation, noted in Sukhum. "Abkhazia is a sovereign state recognized by the six UN members. Therefore, expressing absolute support for the "territorial integrity" of Georgia, the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly completely ignores the political reality prevailing in the South Caucasus after the August 2008", the Foreign Ministry of the republic stated.
The department emphasizes that the use of the term "occupied territory" in relation to Abkhazia and South Ossetia is unacceptable and illegal, both in terms of the opinion of the overwhelming majority of the population of these regions, as well as taking into account the definition of "military occupation" accepted in the international law.
"Tbilisi's maniacal desire to put the term "occupied territories" into circulation is nothing but a propaganda trick designed to mislead the world public. A call to allow the European Union Observer Mission to Abkhazia, contained in the resolution, is legally unfounded and contradicts the text of the Medvedev-Sarkozy plan", said in the statement of the Foreign Ministry.
"Furthermore, we have to admit with regret that lately the EUMM not only failed to bring positive changes in safety, but on the contrary, is ignoring Georgia's destructive actions aimed at destabilizing the situation in Abkhazia. Pay attention to the fact that the call to ensure the safe and dignified return of refugees "with access, if necessary, to the international humanitarian aid" comes against the backdrop of Georgia's ongoing vigorous efforts to the international isolation of Abkhazia. After all, Georgia's law "on occupied territories" actually restricts access of humanitarian aid to the territory of Abkhazia and prevents the resolution of conflict and confidence-building measures", said in the statement.
"We are convinced that an objective assessment of the situation surrounding the Georgian-Abkhazian conflict is impossible without a comprehensive study of the problem and taking into account the views of all parties of the conflict. Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Abkhazia states that the resolution adopted by the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly is politically committed and biased. Unconditional support of Georgia's position by the Parliamentary Assembly pushes Georgia to further provocative actions on the escalation tensions in the region, undermining the Geneva talks and delaying the prospects of the Georgian-Abkhaz settlement", Sukhum noted.
