Expert: opposition forces can undermine each other

2009-02-25 10:15

If opposition forces do not act in a united front they will undermine each other more than authorities can, said Giya Khukhashvili, commenting upon the speech of Irakli Alasania, who on February 23rd announced the establishment of the alliance with the Republicam party and the New Rights.

Khukhashvili cannot run out the establishment of the two opposition centres: Burjanadze and Alasania.

According to the expert, there is still some time left to think everything over. He doubts that any proper decision can be made within 10 days [the time the opposition gave Saakashvili to make a decision on referendum upon the snap presidential elections issue]. "We will either see or not see a livening up of the political processes in our country,"he said.

Speaking of Alasania as a leader Khukhashvili said he has a great potential but lacks quickness, efficacy and vitality.

"I think Alasania needs to show more power and charge, and this power will be created by the team around him. I think the team should expand, otherwise they will all look the same and lack diversity," Khukhashvili stated.

"There is a demand in Georgia now. If you observe Georgia's recent history, you will notice that it goes like cycles. First we had the emotional leader Gamsakhurdia, then everyone got tired of emotions and we had Shevardnadze, then again the expressive Saakashvili and now there is a demand for a politician like Alasania,"the expert said.
