2013-05-21 13:38

Georgian-Russian relations will be discussed at a meeting of NATO-Georgia Commission to be held at the NATO headquarters in Brussels on May 22. This was stated by the special representative of the Prime Minister for Relations with Russia Zurab Abashidze, the Rosbalt reports.

Abashidze has already departed to Brussels together with the First Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Georgia Davit Zalkaliani to participate in the Commission.

According to Zalkaliani, during the meeting of the Commission the parties will discuss the negotiations in Geneva format. "The main issue to discuss at the meeting is the preparation of the visit of the North Atlantic Council to Georgia. Also we'll touch the Geneva talks and relations between Georgia and Russia," he said.

Previously, Special Representative of the Prime Minister for Relations with Russia Zurab Abashidze stated the government had no illusions that progress in relations with Russia would be reached in the near future. He said this after a meeting with members of the Monitoring Committee of PACE.

"We have discussed the Georgian-Russian relations, in particular, the issues of the dialogue that began in December last year at the initiative of the Prime Minister. Our guests are interested in what stage is the process, our future plans, when the next meeting will take place and so on," said Abashidze.
