Foreign Ministry of South Ossetia: tentative results of the European commission for August conflict investigation are very important for us2009-03-24 15:12

According to the Foreign minister of South Ossetia, Murat Jioyev, the data published at the moment, include very important regulations on Georgia started war.
"Since many, both in the West and the leaders of Georgia want to set everything as the aggression of Russia against Georgia, this conclusion is very important for us. I would like to notice that the conclusion is based on the absolutely evident facts. Kurashvili's statement of Georgia's constitutional order restoration was voiced in the night of August 7th - 8th . Even the fact that a Georgian peacemaking battalion participated in the combat actions against the people of South Ossetia witnesses the aggressive character of the Georgia's peacemaking contingent. Besides, it is easy to prove that on August 8th , in the evening, Georgian mass media triumphantly showed the footage from Tskhinval, filmed by Georgian journalists, breaking into the city in tanks and APCs. Their comments were: Tskhinval is under total control of Georgian troops. So, it is absolutely clear who was the instigator and initiator of combat actions against South Ossetia," Jioyev said - The State Committee for information and Press of South Ossetia.
The Minister noted that the EU mission will continue its work further, since the final report must be made to end June 2009. "We cooperate closely, provide from our side all the necessary material on political reasons of the aggression, starting with 1989, as well as on historic, social and other issues. And I hope that the report this mission will prepare, will be objective", the Minister hopes.
"The tentative conclusion that the war was started by the Georgian President Saakashvili lets us hope that other conclusions of the final report will be objective, valid and based on real facts. Moreover, bearing in mind that this war wasn't started occasionally and spontaneously in August 2008, but was preparing for 20 years of the Georgian-Ossetian conflict", Jioyev underlined.
Let us remind that the EU established the mission for investigation of the reasons of the aggression of Georgia against South Ossetia in august 2008. The mission is headed by Heidi Tagliavini, a Swiss diplomat, and includes a number of experts in political, military and other issues. Recently the commission has visited South Ossetia to acquaint the situation.
